KIRA REGAN

PILATES APPRENTICE

Hi there! I am very excited to be joining Carrie and Sarah at Luna Sol Pilates as a Pilates Apprentice. I am currently Balanced Body Mat Pilates certified and am commencing the comprehensive Pilates teacher training. I graduated with a degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University in 2019, and since then have been deeply intrigued by the Pilates method and mobility training, which I feel constitute the (often) missing link of a holistic and healthy approach to training.

I am very passionate about creating and delivering unique movement experiences to a wide array of clients. I intend to help fulfill Joseph Pilates’ dream of introducing his vision of mind-body fitness into every aspect of life, spanning from teaching children and teenagers onsite in after-school programs, to offering cross-training for athletes, and osteoporosis-safe ZOOM classes for the older generations. I love the challenge of programming a well-balanced Pilates workout that includes multi-joint and multi-planar movements (aka moving the body and its joints in all the ways it is designed to move) that lead to even muscular development. I always include an element of playful and explorative movement to my mat sessions- these might include fun balance challenges or Animal Flow combos!

Pilates has helped me to alleviate chronic pain, stiffness, and weakness resulting from a brachial palsy birth injury. Residual nerve damage around my right shoulder drastically limits my external rotation, overhead mobility, and ability to perform exercises such as push-ups and pull ups. Through adherence to a consistent Pilates practice over the past few years, I now feel stronger than ever and can even do a few push-ups before needing to modify. Movement truly is medicine! My personal experience of living with a movement limitation has helped me become an empathetic and patient instructor. I always provide regressions and progressions in group classes, so that my students can be challenged safely at their current fitness level.

My mission in life is to never stop learning, creating, and normalizing fitness as a lifestyle. I hope to empower people of all ages to become better movers by bridging the gap between strength and grace, cultivating “physical literacy”, and enhancing mind-body connection and community through the delivery of the Pilates method. I think of Pilates as “cross-training for life”, as this holistic practice is highly adaptable to all fitness levels and will help you feel rejuvenated in both your daily endeavors and athletic pursuits. In addition to teaching, I find great joy in trail running, hitting running PRs, hiking, traveling, plant-based cooking, singing, and dancing. If you’d like to learn some “movement snacks” and catch a glimpse of my nomadic, plant-powered Pilates lifestyle, please don't hesitate to connect online!

Kira is amazing! She is very professional and knowledgeable. She is fun to work with and is open and receptive to feedback, really wanting to create an individualized workout plan that incorporates your goals. She has been working with me on pilates, yoga, and animal flow. I was looking to increase my flexibility and work on my core and upper body strength and she created a workout program specifically designed for me. She’s especially great to work with because of her wide variety of talents and interests including vegetarian cooking, running, and dancing. I highly recommend Kira if you are looking to get in shape and lead a healthier, more active lifestyle.
