Sarah Waslohn

CO-OWNER & PILATES INSTRUCTOR

Sarah’s enthusiasm for movement started early in life as a young dancer and choreographer. Drawn to the creativity and versatility of modern dance, she pursed a university program that integrated dance, Pilates and anatomical study. Sarah graduated with honors (and a BA in Dance) from SF State University in 2010 and enrolled in Pilates Integrated Teacher Training (ITT) program the following year. Through ITT at A Body of Work in San Francisco, she learned to work with diverse bodies and abilities through a holistic Pilates approach. For Sarah, this means not simply performing Pilates choreography, but using what we know about the body (through science and various practices) to improve functional movement and quality of life. The collaborative, inclusive atmosphere at A Body of Work studio gave Sarah the inspiration and blueprint for what would become Luna Sol Pilates Studio. Sarah is grateful to have learned from so many incredible teachers, some of which include: Jean Sullivan, Margaret Tappan, Ashley Beldon, Elizabeth Larkham, Clare Cleveland, Nicole Bonadonna, Madeline Black, Christine Rivera-Gapuz, Laura Cotler, Jeni Ivovic, Claudia Moose, Greta Wyeth, Dion Wiedenhoefer, Gina Meyer and Christine Crooks. Her other movement experience includes 20+ years of modern dance, contact improv, ballet, yoga, and a yoga teaching certification in 2017.

Sarah also carries with her a history of disordered eating and body shame, and is dedicated to her own healing in order to liberate those around her. Behind the scenes, she works to address unconscious biases in herself and in the studio to create a more inclusive, welcoming space for all. Sarah practices weaving empathy, compassion, body-neutrality, trauma-sensitive language and mindfulness into the way she teaches Pilates.

Sarah lives in the hills of Vacaville with her husband, Chris. For fun, she dances with Linda Bair Dance Company, paints watercolors, organizes all the closets, takes long walks and thrives on audiobooks and podcasts.

Sarah has talent, training, and empathy. Whether you are in the best shape of your life or someone recovering from injury or any place in between, Sarah will offer you careful instruction and inspiration. She is one of the best trained teachers I have encountered in many years of taking movement and exercise classes and she is definitely my favorite!

Degenerative arthritis was taking its toll. I was unable to walk a block without severe back pain. To prevent it from getting worse I had to find a way to keep moving (words of the neurosurgeon).
The recommendation was to try Pilates while waiting for a scheduled nerve block. On the recommendation of a friend I began sessions twice a week with Sarah.
Following the third session, I steadily began to experience less pain and was able to gradually increase my activity.
My current situation shows the transformation: I now walk pain-free one hour each day and continue to take Pilates twice a week. Needless to say, the nerve block was cancelled.
I can’t put a price on this!

I never knew what Pilates exercise was until a friend told me about it. I have had both a shoulder replacement as well as two knee surgeries throughout the years. Sarah and her knowledge and expertise has changed my life.
